DraftKings Pitcher Picks – May 19

Welcome back to the best place to get expert Starting Pitcher Selections for DraftKings Daily Fantasy Baseball contests. If you went with our picks last night you did pretty well as Matt Harvey (31.8 FP, 3.0 per $1K), Chris Sale (26.4 FP, 2.78 per $1K), and Dan Haren (21 FP, 3.18 per $1K) all put up numbers that outperformed their salary figures.

These selections are tailored toward DraftKings’s pitcher scoring system but these picks can also be helpful in H2H formats with daily rosters where my recommended low-priced starting pitchers may be available to pick up off the Waiver Wire for a spot start. Also, a majority of these selections would also be recommended for FanDuel contests, but you should first understand the differences of the two site’s scoring systems before plugging players in both.

Below are my picks for Tuesday, May 19th, 2015. There is a full slate of games for the 7:10 pm contests. Good Luck!

Jason Hammel (CHI) at SD for $8,700: Hammel is having a good year going 3-1 with a 3.11 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 41 Ks in 46 1/3 IP. He is averaging a solid 19.6 FFPG at an average salary of $7100. His prices have gone up from a low of $6100 to a season high mark of $8700 tonight in pitcher paradise Petco Park. Do not be put off by that as his IP and strikeout numbers (over 7 IP and 6 K per game in last four starts) are worthy of the price. Lastly, he takes the mound for resurgent Cubs who are only a slight road underdog against a Padre team who has  fallen under .500 and have scored just 23 runs in their last 7 games.

More from DFS

Anibal Sanchez (DET) home vs. MIL for $8100: Sanchez was scintillating last time out, dominating the Twins on 5/14 over 8 innings, giving up just one run, 6 H/BB and striking out 9. It appears he is breaking out of a mini-slump using his deep repertoire of pitches very effectively. The Tigers are a prohibitive favorite (-170) and face the Brewers at home who have the 6th worst offense (3.7 rpg) in baseball. When Sanchez is on he can be an élite pitcher – my recommendation is to roll with him until he cools off. And he’s at an extremely affordable price of $8,100 tonight.

Long Shot of the Day: Carlos Frias (LAD) at SF for $5500: Frias has been a pleasant surprise for the Dodges, pitching effectively (3-0, 2.89 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 16K in 18 2/3 IP) filling in the 5th starter role. Coming out the bullpen in late April to start due to injuries, he has stretched out nicely increasing his pitch count from 70 in his first start to 84 then 97 in his last outing. He faces the Giants in San Fransisco for the 24-13 Dodgers who are a slight (-115) road favorite. You can reasonably at least 15 FPPG here if not more. While Frias is a better play in FanDuel, he still is great candidate to pair with a high-priced pitcher in a large Draft Kings tournament and will leave you money to target some quality bats.

Stay Away: Hector Santiago (LAA) at TOR for $6,700: The Angel lefty hasn’t pitched bad at all (2-2, 2.42 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 39 Ks in 41 IP, 17.7 FPPG) and is coming off two excellent starts where he averaged 22.3 FPPG and allowed only 12 H/BB and one run in 12 1/3 IP with 13 Ks. This may attract owners especially at the low price of $6,700 tonight. However, he is facing the high scoring Blue Jays who especially feast on LHP as indicative of a league leading .328 BA against them which is 27 points higher than 2nd place. Plus, the Angels are an underdog and playing in Rogers Centre w/ a 9+ run line. Buyer Beware!
