Fantasy Football: Can Marcus Mariota Be A Top Ten QB?

Can Marcus Mariota Be A Top Ten QB?
Can Marcus Mariota be a top ten fantasy QB? Today we are going to look at the fantasy prospects of Marcus Mariota at QB for the Tennessee Titans. As of today I am not completely sold on Mariota’s fantasy prospects, but I do believe that he has a solid chance to be a top ten producer. I think he has some major issues that he will need to work on to be a franchise type of NFL quarterback. His stats and number can be viewed by clicking here.

We all know of his ball issues, but for leagues that penalize on fumbles and interceptions Mariota could wind up being more of a liability than a blessing. I do think that ball control issues are something that can be taught so if he can get a grip on the football that will certainly increase his fantasy stock. (pun intended) Mariota was not much of one to throw interceptions in college, but with the speed of the NFL game we could see that change.
I am also not completely sold on his decision-making for the NFL game. Most of Mariota’s success in the college game was based on quick-hitting plays with what seems to be limited options. In the NFL the more successful quarterbacks are guys who have the wherewithal to find the third forth and sometimes fifth options. I am not sure if he has that ability. I am not saying that he doesn’t, but I am just not sure.
We have looked at what I believe to be some of the downfalls or bad parts of his game, now let us look at what I think are some of the good parts. As I mentioned earlier Mariota has always carried a great TD:interception ratio. Mariota also has a demonstrated ability to scramble and run with the football. Although sometimes that is seen as a negative for the NFL game, I believe that it can be a good thing for Mariota. We have seen how those abilities have helped the fantasy prospects f Andrew Luck and with his touchdown running ability on the goal line has made Luck a much better fantasy QB to own. I could see the same thing for Mariota.
I think that Mariota may have the ‘it factor’ that a QB needs in this league to have success. Usually this is something that is very clear, but I think that he has it. He is a very confident and very poised quarterback and if he can get his fumbling woes under control I do believe that he can be a top-ten quarterback for fantasy purposes, but not for the 2015 season. He is a great target for keeper and dynasty leagues, but I probably would not even draft him in a standard ten team fantasy league. I think I would probably want him in a 12-14 team deep league and he would be a great third QB if you are in a league that starts two quarterbacks. All in all I would take a flier on him in deep keeper leagues and would certainly draft him in a dynasty league. I would especially be interested if I was a dynasty owner with Tom Brady or Peyton Manning as my starter.
