It’s still early, but who is leading the MLB award races?

Memorial Day awaits.

It is often said that MLB teams and players should not be evaluated until Memorial Day arrives, marking as a sort of ceremonial mark of the first quarter of the season. That holiday will arrive next week, and with that, we can begin to round up players and teams that are presenting improved skill sets and/or sustainable performances.

In this space each week, we evaluate MLB’s award races, and the competition is already at a fever pitch, considering that many of the league’s players have real sample sizes of success. Still, we are still early in the campaign, meaning that results are quite fluid at this juncture on a week to week basis.

Last week’s edition took a deep dive into each of the league’s award races, ranging from Rookie of the Year to MVP, but as you will note, many names are not similar from one week to the next. On to this week, beginning with the NL Rookie of the Year watch and moving forward from there.
