Jesper Fast broke loose from the Tampa Bay Lightning to score a relatively easy goal Wednesday night in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Jesper Fast has quickly become a marquee player for the New York Rangers, especially this postseason. Though he entered Wednesday night’s Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning with just one goal and four points, Fast has been all over the place for New York.

His presence has been life easier for teammates, and he continues to draw key assignments from head coach Alain Vigneault as the playoffs progress. Wednesday night he rewarded Vigneault’s confidence, breaking free of the Lightning defense to secure a wide open breakaway. And he finished in style.

Fast took advantage of a Lightning player struggling to even skate after a collision around center ice. The Lightning could not get a change in time as Fast outskated them as Chris Kreider hit him stride. Fast simply had to catch the pass, deke Lightning goalie Ben Bishop and finish with the backhand shot.

He did it to perfection to give the Rangers what at the time seemed like a commanding 2-0 lead.

But as was the case in Tuesday night’s Western Conference Finals Game 2, the road team gave up their first period early 2-0 lead to see the home team come back to tie the game 2-2.

Hockey fans may not be able to take another three overtime contest. So hopefully someone scores another goal before the clock turns to midnight.
