MLB Power Rankings: Dodgers climb to the congested top
The Los Angeles Dodgers may have been the most expensive team in baseball heading into the season, but it took them nearly six weeks to climb to the top of our MLB Power Rankings
Six weeks of baseball may seem like a large sample size, but the 2015 season has shown that we still have a lot of baseball and the pool is still way too shallow for us to read into the smallest of ripples.
Take for example the pre-season favorite Washington Nationals. Washington fell flat on their faces coming out of the gate, going 10-13 to open the season. However, things turned around quickly in the early days of the season and the Nationals have fired off a 13-4 record to start May, pushing them back into a tie for first in the National League East.
Likewise, the defending champion San Francisco Giants opened 9-13, a stumble that included a seven-game losing streak in the middle of April. All they’ve done is roll off a 12-5 record in May and have pulled back to within 3.5 games of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Needless to say, the Major League Baseball season is a long one and there is a reason why the 162-game schedule is known as a marathon. One big month is enough to get most teams right back in the hunt, and likewise, a strong start can fade with the slightest turn of luck. That’s why early season power rankings, like the one you will shortly be reading, are so fluid.
A small pond means big ripples, so which teams are making waves this week?
