Titans’ Marcus Mariota top NFL jersey seller in May
The Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback hasn’t played a snap yet and he already has the most popular jersey in the league.
Marcus Mariota wasn’t even the first quarterback selected in the 2015 NFL Draft and has yet to play a snap of action in the league. Yet, the humble and hard-working quarterback is already popular amongst the fans.
According to Paul Kuharsky of ESPN, the Titans’ director of finance, Stuart Spears, said that Mariota had the highest jersey sales of any player in the league for May.
With Mariota being one of the most talked about quarterback prospects to come out of the draft in a while, he has plenty of marketability despite being a quiet young player.
With the fast-paced offense he ran at Oregon, many are wondering if his skill set will translate to the NFL. With so much hype for the young quarterback, it’s easy for the Titans and the league to market him to the fans as they wait to see if he is the next big thing in the NFL.
It’s no surprise that Mariota was going to be popular coming into the league. The fact that he is already the top jersey seller ahead of guys like Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning is downright insane. Add in the fact he plays in the Tennessee market, which isn’t as big as others, then it really goes to show just how popular he really is.
The jersey sales indicate that the people want to see him play at the next level. With fellow rookie receiver Dorial Green-Beckham at his side, he will have a chance to light up his first year in the league.
Sports fans have always been fond of the good guys in the game, and Mariota is one of those good guys. Leading the league in jersey sales gives him even more to live up to once his career begins as a Titan.
If he doesn’t perform right away and his career doesn’t take off, then those jersey sales will come to a screeching halt.
