Michael Sam signed with the Montreal Alouttes and his first CFL jersey is already on sale.

If you were waiting for the chance to buy Michael Sam’s CFL jersey to go on sale, then your wait is over. The Montreal Alouttes aren’t waiting to cash in on their signing of Michael Sam as his jersey is already on sale at the team store for the world to buy.

This has more to do with just football, as Michael Sam is a cultural hero for the LGBT community and he’s going to bring his following to Canada and a bigger awareness to the CFL.

That’s huge for Sam and it’s mutually huge for the CFL.

For now though, the honeymoon period is here and the fat that his jersey is on sale is amazing for all involved.

Michael Sam wasn’t fit for the NFL — or the NFL wasn’t fit for Michael Sam, a debate that is going to rage for a very long time. But the drama about having an openly gay player in an NFL locker room is over for now and it’s up the the Canadians to show us just how socially behind we are, despite boasting how progressive a society we are.

If the CFL doesn’t spontaneously combust all at once from having a gay football player in the locker room and on the field in a prominent role, then the NFL deserves to be even more ashamed than it already is. Michael Sam’s future in the NFL is still there, and the potential for him to be contributor is still possible.

But for now, the CFL is going to show the world that having a gay football player isn’t unlike having a straight football player in the locker room — someone has to prove it to the knuckle draggers of the world, eh?
