Let’s get started with today’s top ten batter vs pitcher matchups which include a few sleepers as well as some bigger names who have had success against today’s expected opponent.
10. Chase Utley-2B-Philadelphia Phillies: The Phillies and Mets meat this afternoon in an NL East matchup featuring the ageless wonder Bartolo Colon. Utley has a solid history against Colon going 5-14 (.357) against him in the past with a pair of doubles. He’ll look to continue that success this afternoon
9. Brett Gardner-OF-New York Yankees: In another of the early matinee games, the Yankees look to stop their fretful after getting swept over the weekend by the Rangers. They’ll take on the visiting Royals this afternoon and go up against Jeremy Guthrie. In the past, Brett Gardner has hit Guthrie well going 6-17 (.353) with a double and a triple against the veteran righty.
8. Ben Revere-OF-Philadelphia Phillies: Chase Utley isn’t the only Phillies batter with a good record against Colon. In his career, Ben Revere is 7-18 (.389) with a double against the big righty, and makes a nice play today if you are looking for average and don’t necessarily need power.
