Will Cam Newton Bounce Back This Year?
As of right now ESPN.com has Cam Newton as the eighth rated QB for the 2015 season. Before Cam Newton’s injury-plagued season of 2014 he has never a season worse than the fifth overall QB. This past season was Newton’s worse season of his career. He missed two games and wound up finishing as the 16th overall QB for the 2014 season.

So with that information now we need to look and see what was the reason for Newton falling so far from finishing as a top five QB his first few seasons to finishing so low last season. Was he just playing bad because of the ankle injury or was it some other factor. The main change in the offense was the departure of Steve Smith Jr., but the Panthers were able to fill that void with Kelvin Benjamin who was able to finish as the #17 overall WR last year. It would seem that his pass-catchers were not the issue as Newton also had a very reliable tight end in Greg Olsen.
His rushing totals the past two seasons have taken a bit of a dip. His first two seasons he rushed for around 700 yards and rushed for 14 TDs his rookie season with 8 rushing TDs his second season. His third season his rushing totals dropped to 585 yards with only six rushing TDs, but he still passed for 24 TDs. In the 2014 season all of his totals took a major dip. He rushed for 525 yards and 5 TDs while passing 3,127 yards with only 18 TDs and 12 interceptions.
I believe that his problems last year were definitely injury related. With that being said I believe that Cam Newton will likely be a player who will be had at a bargain on draft day. In ESPN.com’s top 300 they have him listed as the 98th overall player and the eighth overall QB. That would put Newton at being drafted around the tenth round or so and if he is able to return to the form that he delivered in his first three seasons he would be returning much greater value than that.

I would be looking to add Newton in dynasty and keeper leagues that keep over six players. I would be very comfortable keeping him as my QB on a 12-team six keeper style of league. I understand that there is risk with how bad Newton finished the 2014 season, but there is also great reward if you can acquire him at a nice discount from someone who overvalues the results of the previous season. Often times there are far too many players in fantasy leagues who buy in to the theory that a player who had a bad season is finished for the rest of his career. Cam Newton is worth the risk of a buy-low trade in a dynasty league or trying to draft him two or three rounds ahead of whatever his current ADP is going into drafts for the 2015 season.
