Fantasy Football: Is It Time To Move C.J. Spiller Up The Draft Board?

Is It Time To Move C.J. Spiller Up The Draft Board?
News recently broke that said Sean Payton will make getting C.J. Spiller the ball in space a priority. Spiller has always shown flashes of the talent he possesses, but has certainly never really reached his full potential in Buffalo. Even when SPiller played under Chan Gailey in Buffalo he was great and was utilized well, but I don’t think he was near what he is capable of. Spiller is still only 27-years-old and still has plenty of gas left in the tank. He is not a back that has a great deal of wear and tear either as he has usually had Fred Jackson to split carries with.

Currently I have Spiller as my 25th overall RB and I think I am a bit too low already. There is a solid chance that Spiller could return some numbers similar to what Darren Sproles did in that offense just a few years ago. Of course Spiller will be competing with Mark Ingram for touches, but we have seen plenty of years where two backs were very fantasy worthy under Payton and is offensive brilliance.
I mentioned in my in-depth PPR top 50 RB ranks that will publish in the middle of June that I also expect for Spiller to be utilized quite a bit in the passing game due to the departure of Jimmy Graham. That is a serious dent in that offense and someone is going to be the benefactor of those touches and the red-zone looks. I could see the Saints looking to set Spiller up with some screen looks and quick-hitting pass plays to try and sneak him into the end zone.
I hear a lot of guys talking about how they think that the Saint offense will never look the same with Drew Brees and Marques Colston both another year older and the departure of Jimmy Graham. As of right now I am not real worried about things in New Orleans as I think that Payton will have the answers to make things work. He is certainly one of the better offensive minds in the game and will work hard to make sure that this offense will be clicking by week three of four of the regular season. I don’t want to underscore the fact that Graham’s absence hurts this team, but I do believe that Payton will find a way to counteract the loss.

I would certainly endorse a move to add Spiller to your dynasty leagues. He signed a four-year deal with the Saints and I think that he will most likely be a fantasy factor for all four of those years. I am not sure where I would draw the line in keeper leagues as far as adding Spiller. I could probably see keeping him in a 12-team 6-keeper PPR league as I certainly think he will carry more value in PPR leagues than standard. I would definitely draft him in the top 72 of leagues and that is pretty much how I determine my keepers in those type of leagues.
As always we thank you for stopping by and wish you the best of luck in all of your fantasy football leagues and drafts.
