Cyclones’ head coach Fred Hoiberg spent Monday in Chicago finalizing details of his new contract with the Bulls.

In the least surprising news of all time: Fred Hoiberg will be the next coach of the Chicago Bulls.

Hoiberg, the current coach of the Iowa State Cyclones, seems to have one foot in the door at the United Center. According to multiple sources, Hoiberg spent Monday in Chicago finalizing his deal to become the next head coach of the Bulls.

Though an official announcement could be issued as early as Monday night, the Bulls are expected to hold a press conference to announce Hoiberg’s hiring on Tuesday.

Hoiberg has been at the top of the list of candidates for the Bulls opening, even prior to there being an opening. Disagreements between former coach Tom Thibodeau, who was fired last Thursday, and the Bulls front office have been well documented. Thibodeau has been at odds with Gar Forman and John Paxson for months. Regardless of how the Bulls performed in the post season, Thibodeau’s fate was set.

Call it irreconcilable differences.

Once Thibodeau was let go, the Hoiberg courtship began. Hoiberg, who played for the Bulls back in the early 2000’s, was a no-brainer choice for Chicago. Not only does he run a pro-style offense at Iowa State, where took the team from irrelevance to dominance, but he’ll also play nice with the front office. It doesn’t look like those minutes limits are going anywhere.

If he wants to have a long career in Chicago, Hoiberg, who reportedly has a good relationship with Forman, should try to follow the company line.

It seems that the only thing left for Hoiberg to do is to pick a suburb.
