Landon Collins wanted to honor his hero, Sean Taylor so he changed his number to match the recently deceased defensive back.

The New York Giants selected Landon Collins with the 33rd pick in the 2015 NFL draft out of Alabama. When it was time for Collins to snag a number, instead of picking something random, he decided to honor Sean Taylor, the NFL defensive back who passed away back in 2007.

Following intruders who entered his home armed, Sean Taylor died from gun shot wounds. The NFL mourned his death, as well as Landon Collins.

Now that he is in the NFL, Collins thought it best to honor Taylor by selecting his number. Apparently, Taylor was a hero to Collins when he grew up. So when he got selected by the New York Giants he got a chance to wear no. 21 to honor Taylor. Of course, this used to be Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie number, but he gladly stepped aside to give Collins a chance at selecting the same number of his hero.

This is such a great gesture after the tragic death of Sean Taylor 8 years ago. Taylor was only 24 years old at the time, and his untimely death was tragic and deeply sad. But now that some time has passed and a new generation of players have entered the NFL, it’s time to celebrate his life. And what better way than to honor his memory by playing every single snap with his number on your chest.
