The calendar has flipped to June and with that, summer is here. That, of course, means that baseball is poised to take center stage on the national sporting landscape, and with only the NBA Finals (set to begin on Thursday) in its way, MLB is really heating up at this point.

To this point, the baseball season has been marred to some extent by injuries and some unusual team performances. However, there have been quite a few individual players who have come flying out of the gate with reckless abandon (hi, Bryce Harper), and they deserve recognition.

In this space, we will profile each of the league’s six major award races, listing a top-three in each at this point in the season. It must be noted that this is not a predictive tool, but rather a snapshot of where we are at this moment, taking into account statistical performance and overall impact.
