NHL Trade Rumors: Rangers looking to move Cam Talbot?
By Josh Hill
The New York Rangers fell short of the Stanley Cup Finals again, and it’s looking like they might have to trade their way out of trouble.
For a second straight year the New York Rangers made it to the Conference Finals, but in consecutive seasons New York has fallen well short of returning the Stanley Cup to the Big Apple. They were swept out of the Cup Finals in 2014 and this year they lost a full seven game series against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Depending on who you talk to, the Rangers are either one piece away from a title or in complete and utter shambles, simply posing as a team that knows what it’s doing.
According to Pat Leonard of the NY Daily News, the Rangers might be best off trading backup netminder Cam Talbot to bolster their roster.
"Obviously no one in the Ranger organization wants Talbot to go. He is under contract for one more season. But they’ve drafted a ton of goalies recently and if they truly want to win now, he’s the best trade bait they have."
This is really a case of who you talk to. Rangers fans are split in thinking that the team is in danger of falling back while other are being tough New Yorkers and defending their team.
Either way, something needs to be done in New York to fix the Rangers. Whether that involves trading Talbot is the big debate. Henrik Lundqvist is at his prime, but he’s also 33-years old and hasn’t been able to bring the Cup to New York.
Then again, Talbot is a great trade chip for the Rangers, and outside of Rick Nash he’s their most attractive trade chip that teams would want. They could swing a deal that involves Carl Hagelin, who is probably going to leave this summer anyways.
New York is this close to the Stanley Cup, but need to find a way to stop getting frozen out.
