Chargers rookie linebacker Denzel Perryman is already off to a rocky start in San Diego, and has earned the ire of his coaches for participating in a charity dodgeball event while injured.

Denzel Perryman is expected to compete for the San Diego Chargers‘ starting inside linebacker job, but he might have already found his way into the doghouse of the coaching staff just one week into OTA’s

Perryman, the team’s second-round draft pick, has been limited so far through the optional offseason workouts, but that did not stop him from posting this video on Instagram of him taking part in a charity dodgeball tournament over the weekend.

You would expect a lot more reservation from an injured rookie trying to earn a starting job in the NFL, and understandably, the San Diego coaching staff was not pleased with their young linebacker’s antics.

"“It’s been discussed,” Chargers head coach Mike McCoy told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “That’s all I’m going to say. I’ve discussed it with him. That’s it. You’ve got to get past these tests here before you do all of that stuff.”"

Perryman is still recovering from a hamstring injury. While it is not a major concern, as he did not aggravate the injury and the punishment was handled swiftly in-house, it is still an alarming lack of judgment.

While he was participating to raise money and awareness for a great cause, there was no need for Perryman to take part in physical activities. Even worse, he appeared to be going 100 percent, running and jumping around, and even taking a scary fall for a moment.

As for the two starting inside linebacker spots, incumbent starters Donald Butler and Manti Te’o have to be leading the race for the job. Perryman’s recent metal lapse will force him to earn back the trust of his teammates and coaches while being much more accountable going forward.
