The Chicago Blackhawks beat the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals thanks to two goals in the third period.

The Chicago Blackhawks traveled south to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Lightning took a lead in the game thanks to a remarkable goal from Alex Killorn.

With his back to the net, he backhanded a puck out of midair to take the lead.

With an impressive goal like that in a game when two goalkeepers standing on their heads, it looked like it might be the only one to find the back of the net. That 1-0 lead held going into the third period and that is when the floodgates opened up for the Blackhawks. Teuvo Teravainen with under 7 minutes left in the game.

A few minutes later, Antoine Vermette scored as well to take the lead.

That would be all the Blackhawks needed to hold on and win the game.

The win could be pivotal in the game, the Blackhawks have three games left on their home ice and with a 1-0 lead in the series are in the driver’s seat. The Lightning will be get a chance to tie the series at home in Game 2, and will need a win in Chicago to regain home-ice advantage.

Game 2 is Saturday night.
