Will the next head coach fill the shoes of Thibs?

After the Bulls lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers, everyone and their brother knew that Tom Thibodeau was going to be fired. The relationship between Gar Forman and Thibs was beyond repair, and it was clear the front office wanted someone a bit more compliant with their demands. So they fired one of the best coaches in the NBA.

The thing about firing Thibs is he leaves some pretty big shoes to fill. In his first head coaching job in the NBA he went 255-139 and that was without his super star point guard half the time. It was clear that Thibodeau emerged as one of the best coaches in the NBA. So getting someone to thrive in his wake will be difficult.

There are rumors that Phil Hoiberg is going to fill in for Thibodeau as the Bulls are set to announce a five year deal with the new head coach if he ends up signing on. Hoiberg spent the last five years coaching Iowa State where he made the NCAA tournament four times and even made it to one Sweet Sixteen. His most attractive feature is his pro style offense which speaks to his playing days at Minnesota.

It seems that Hoiberg has the tools to be successful at the next level of coaching. The only question that remains is will he be better than Thibodeau. Or perhaps an even better question is whether or not the front office will let him be.
