Ray Rice: Five potential landing spots
1. New England Patriots
New England has never been afraid of bringing in players with a bad reputation. The Patriots brought in Randy Moss to help lead them to an undefeated regular season before giving Donte Stallworth a chance after he pleaded guilty to DUI manslaugher in 2009. Stallworth was ultimately released before ever playing a regular-season game for New England.
The Patriots desperately need some help in the running back department, making Rice an attractive option. New England was paced in rushing yards last year by Jonas Gray, who famously went off on a Sunday Night Football game against the Indianapolis Colts for 199 yards and four touchdowns. Going into 2015, LeGarrette Blount and Stevan Ridley are the two primary backs, with Shane Vereen having left in free agency for the New York Giants.
Rice would be incredibly insulated by New England if he signs there. Head coach Bill Belichick does a masterful job of keeping his players away from the media, something that has drawn the ire of plenty writers and reporters. Rice would likely have to speak at length once before only asking football-related questions. The fan outrage would also be muted since they are coming off a championship, something that always puts people in a better mood.
