10 most miserable NFL fanbases
By Andrew Garda
Jacksonville Jaguars
Seriously, there was a cottage industry for a while talking about the Jacksonville Jaguars. That they would move anywhere at any time, that they had to cover the seats with tarps – so many jokes that not involving the terrible product on the field didn’t seem like an oversight.
After entering the NFL as an expansion franchise in 1995, the Jaguars had one awful season followed by four glorious years where they were relevant, making the playoffs regularly and even advancing to the conference championship twice (losing to the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans).
Since then, aside from a couple of years in the middle of the 2000’s, the Jaguars have been pretty awful. The last four years have been particularly egregious, as the team has mostly been under .500 for that stretch. Really, since 2007, when the Jaguars advanced (and lost) in the divisional round, they’ve been a horror show, under .500 every season but 2010 where they went 8-8.
Oh, and the ownership and the NFL keep shipping games off to London.
Maybe things are looking up. The same owner sending games across the pond seems intent on turning things around and doing it in Jacksonville, so the specter of a move seems to be gone. They have a quarterback in Blake Bortles who looks terribly promising, some young receivers and a solid defense.
And more importantly, the long-suffering fanbase has a pool.
I keep hoping things work out for Jacksonville and their fans. Certainly the folks down in Duval have put in the time for their team, and hopefully it will pay off sooner than later.
