10 most miserable NFL fanbases
By Andrew Garda
Buffalo Bills
Much like the other two AFC East teams on this list, Buffalo Bills fans have had a rough time of it.
The Bills have been consistent punching bags for much of their history and their fans are well acquainted with heartbreak. Even when they went to four straight Super Bowls, they lost all of them, occasionally in heart-breaking fashion. The team played pretty well for most of the 1990’s, but since they lost to the Tennessee Titans in the infamous ‘Music City Miracle’ in Jan. 2000 they have not sniffed a playoff berth.
In fact, Bills fans have had to suffer through a 97-143 record over the last 14 years, with two seasons over .500, including last year’s somewhat improbable 9-7.
All the while, Bills fans had to deal with constant rumors of a move to Canada, finally put to rest (we think) when new owner Terry Pegula told fans (per Dan Hanzus of NFL.com) “… We don’t have to worry about that anymore.”
They also got a new coach in former Jets coach Rex Ryan. Ryan will be an energizing force for this franchise, as he was with the Jets. However, he has many of the same problems which sunk him in New York – a good defense with a nice offense quarterbacked by potential mediocrity.
EJ Manuel seems like he may never get up to speed and while Matt Cassel can hold the fort, he’s not a long-term answer. Can Ryan turn the ship around and give Buffalo fans something to cheer about?
They certainly deserve it.
