Dustin Runnels, better known as Goldust, has issued a statement on the passing of his father, Dusty Rhodes

The professional wrestling world was delivered some devastating news on Thursday with the announcement of the passing of one of the all-time greats, the “American Dream” Dusty Rhodes. Everyone in the wrestling community and beyond were understandably heartbroken, but now one could have taken the sudden news worse than his two sons whom he was very close with.

Just 24 hours after his death his oldest son, Dustin, better known as Goldust, took to his Facebook page to issue the following statement.

"“Yesterday my father passed away with his four children, my daughter and his wife of 38 yrs. he was our hero and the greatest father in the world. He is the reason why I am who I am today. He taught me so so many lessons in life. He had 1 thing that he wanted to be and that was he wanted to be forever young. Now he is. Now he is dancing with angels in heaven. He was my mentor, my hero and a dad that I strive to be like. I love you dad. Thank you for all the overwhelmingly amount of love and support. He would have been on cloud 9 with this. Thank you all. Dustin Runnels”"

Dustin and Dusty were very close with one another, especially since they reconciled years ago after not talking to one another for about an eight-year period. From that moment in which they reunited in WCW, though, they’ve been about as close as a father and son can be, and that lasted right up until the untimely death of maybe the greatest talker the industry has ever seen.

Dusty has another son, current WWE Superstar Cody, although he has not issued any sort of statement on his father as of yet.

According to a report from TMZ, the sudden passing of Rhodes was caused by a fall he took while at home Wednesday morning during the early hours. He was taken to a local hospital where his condition, right up until the point that he sadly passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 69.

He lived a full life and accomplished a lot, but he was maybe most proud of the two sons that he raised to also be successful in the business that he loved so much.
