The Good: There are very few Major League uniforms better than the traditional home whites of the Oakland A’s, topped off with a green cap and gold bill. The gray jersey is nearly as good and few teams have better alternates than the two used by the Athletics. Of course, the A’s have been dabbling in alternates (even as road uniforms) since the 1970s, so they’ve had plenty of time to perfect the practice.

Also, one of the things that I really love about the A’s is their white cleats, which have been standard issue for players for roughly half a century. White cleats were even added to “The Swingin’ A’s” logo the franchise used from 1971-81. I’m glad the head-to-toe gold uniforms of that era gave way to the classic look used today, but the addition of white shoes was a good one for the A’s. I actually it would be nice to see the Padres and Astros (two teams that also donned white cleats a few decades ago) should go back to them.

The Bad: Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the solid green road cap the A’s wear. While the white logo now outlined in gold is a slight improvement over the simpler one the team wore from 1994-2013, the A’s would like just a little bit better if they wore their home cap on the road as well.

I also loved it when players exposed their gold sanitation socks under green stirrups (though with the addition of green with gold-ringed socks, it appears that feature is sadly on the way out – though not extinct just yet).
