MLB: Major League Baseball uniform power rankings
- Home Cap: 8th
- Home Jersey: 6th
- Road Cap: 6th
- Road Jersey: 4th
The Good: In case you haven’t noticed, the Kansas City Royals are the only team from Major League Baseball’s expansion era to make it into the top ten of our MLB uniform power rankings. Simply put, the 14 franchises that have kept their names for more than 100 years have a leg up when it comes to producing beautiful, classic uniform sets. The Pittsburgh Pirates are no different.
The current P logo the Pirates use dates back to at least 1948 and the team hasn’t messed with it often, which is a good thing. The Pirates also get bonus points for their good-looking yet unique numbers and for wearing throwback uniforms regularly for Sunday home games.
The Bad: There are some mistakes in Pittsburgh’s uniform past, such as the introduction of red as a secondary color and pinstriped sleeveless jerseys in the 2000s, but there’s not a lot to complain about. I’d rather they not wear a black alternate (I actually think gold would be a better choice), but at least the club sticks with white and gray pants instead of the black and gold bottoms the team mixed in during the 1970s.
