Jose Bautista makes a great catch; Kevin Pillar makes a better catch
By Len Nunes
Toronto Blue Jays outfielders Jose Bautista and Kevin Pillar make some awesome catches.
The Toronto Blue Jays entered this weekend’s three-game series in Fenway Park against the last place Boston Red Sox fighting to stay above .500. You know what really helps that cause? Great catches by your outfielders.
Jose Bautista and Kevin Pillar are definitely helping the cause.
With the Toronto Blue Jays already up 3-0, Rusney Castillo looked to have put the Boston Red Sox on the board with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 3rd. Sure you can argue that in many ballparks that ball does not clear the wall but Jose Bautista’s catch is still golden. The risk of injury on a wall that is shorter than you is much higher. The concentration needed to catch a ball while holding back on your momentum to avoid going head-over-heels is immeasurable.
That was exhibit A, now for exhibit B.
If you are standing up, for safety sake, sit down for this upcoming Kevin Pillar catch because it’s going to take your breath away.
Full Superman dive and stretch, catches the ball at peak height and bounces up from the turf as if it were made of rubber. If your heart is not beating a little faster after seeing that miraculous effort, go see a doctor.
Meanwhile, the Boston Red Sox are having trouble catching routine pop-flies.
