Report: 76ers’ Joel Embiid suffers yet another setback with his foot
The Philadelphia 76ers might be in for some bad news in the near future as sources claim that last year’s first-round pick Joel Embiid suffered an injury setback.
It was a long rookie season for 7-foot-0 former Kansas star center Joel Embiid as he missed the entire year with a foot injury and the Philadelphia 76ers‘ first round picks started to look like a bit of a mistake.
Philadelphia knew exactly what kind of injury-prone player they were getting in Embiid when the 76ers drafted him No. 3 overall in last year’s draft, but they took a chance and now they are beginning to pay for it — at least early on in his career.
While Embiid is still young at the age of 21, his oft-injured body seems to be worrying the 76ers’ organization. It’s rare for a player to miss the first two seasons of his NBA career, but that seems to be a serious possibility for the second-year player out of Kansas.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Embiid has suffered yet another setback with his health issues and his foot seems to be taking a while to heal.
After weeks of hardcore strength training and rehabilitation, Embiid had reportedly felt great and had no pain in his foot. However, he had a scan on his foot and it showed that his foot hadn’t healed properly and suffered a bit of a setback in the process.
Embiid has a chance to be one of the best big men in the entire league based on the potential he has and his tremendous body size. According to Wojnarowski’s sources, Embiid’s offseason workouts have been considered dominant and he has shown flashes of his old self.
The 7-footer is clearly experiencing a tough time during his career and people are hoping that he won’t be the next Greg Oden. With all the potential in the world and only one year in college Embiid is starting to draw those comparisons, albeit unfair as it’s so early in his career.
Embiid is supposed to join the Sixers’ summer league squad in the coming months, but all that could be in question now because of the setback.
Let’s hope this injury issue is something that will heal with time — even though you would think a year would have been enough time.
