NBA Trade Rumors: Clippers working to acquire Lance Stephenson
By Josh Hill
The Los Angeles Clippers are trying to acquire guard Lance Stephenson from the Charlotte Hornets in an effort to fix him and their roster.
The Los Angeles Clippers were just a few pieces away from making a run at the NBA Finals, but they had an incomplete roster that gave them incomplete results.
Naturally, the Clippers will search for a solution this summer, but before the NBA Finasl are even over, it appears they may have found their fix.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski from Yahoo! Sport, the Los Angeles Clippers are for some reason trying to acquire Lance Stephenson in exchange for Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes.
"In a high-risk, high-reward move, the Los Angeles Clippers are discussing a deal with the Charlotte Hornets to acquire guard Lance Stephenson, league sources told Yahoo Sports. The Clippers would send forwards Spencer Hawes and Matt Barnes to the Hornets, sources said. Talks have been ongoing for several days, but the proposed deal is yet to be considered imminent."
For some reason, this makes sense to Doc Rivers and he wants to make it happen. Realistically, the Hornets would be hard pressed to say no to this deal. They have been trying to dump Stephenson basically since they signed him last offseason and they came close to just straight up cutting him in the middle of the season.
That didn’t happen, and now that the Clippers are apparently willing to send back two very capable players in exchange for a dysfunctional piece, Charlotte would be crazy to say no.
Stephenson can be an All-Star talent if he keeps his head on straight, but we all remember him best for blowing in LeBron James’ ear in the Eastern Conference Finals last year. That was the complete opposite of where Stephenson was at the All-Star Break, and it was a troubling trend that led the Pacers to elect not to bring him back.
Charlotte took a chance and failed, and the Clippers thinking they can fix him is a dangerous idea that is as high risk as it gets.
