7 MLB players in line to reach 3,000 hits
With New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez recording his 3,000th hit, who will be the next seven players to join him?
Like 300 wins, 3,000 hits might soon become a historic feat in baseball that might fade away for a while. That isn’t an indictment on any of the current players, but rather a test of truly how hard the feat is to accomplish.
With players getting plenty of seasoning in the minors these days and being slowly transitioned into the big leagues, whether for injury prevention or to save a year on the player’s contract, players are starting their big league careers at ages 22 or 23. This is far different than the days of guys like Ken Griffey Jr. or Alex Rodriguez starting at 18 or 19 years old.
Still, that doesn’t mean no one from this generation can do it, as there are plenty of young players like Mike Trout, Bryce Harper or Kris Bryant who will have chances to do big things in their careers. Staying healthy and out on the field is a big part of accomplishing a feat like 3,000 hits.
While that’s several years out into the future, and there will surely be other young talent to rise up in that time, there are some in the major leagues that could have a chance to capture the feat before it’s all said and done. Whether, the players in question want to extend their careers to have a shot at recording 3,000 hits is another question.
With Alex Rodriguez being the latest to accomplish one of the most heralded marks in hitting, here are the next seven players that will reach 3,000 hits.
