Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has stepped up in the wake of the tragic mass murder in Charleston, S.C., donating $100 thousand, according to David Newton of ESPN. The donation breaks down to $10,000 for each of the families who lost a loved one, plus $10,000 for the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, where the murders took place.

The generous donation was sent in a letter to the Mother Emanuel Hope Fund on Friday, and shown on Twitter by South Carolina House of Representatives member, Bakari Sellers:

The donation was mostly to help pay for the funeral costs of each member, per the letter. The team declined to comment further on the letter, per Newton’s story.

"“We don’t want to comment on the specifics of the donation, but know our hearts are one with those who grieve the loss of these individuals,” team spokesperson Steven Drummond said."

This is truly a beautiful gesture in such an ugly time. Richardson stepped up and helped to ease the burden on those who are going through unspeakable suffering. When Richardson bought the Panthers as an expansion franchise in 1995, he stated that the team represented both North ans South Carolina, despite being located in Charlotte, N.C. However, training camp is hosted by Wofford College, located in Spartanburg, S.C.
