Sorting through the conflicting reports about Ohio State point guard D’Angelo Russell and his desire to play for the Philadelphia 76ers.

The NBA season is over and the NBA Draft is quickly approaching. One of the most talked about prospects is Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell. With the Minnesota Timberwolves and Los Angeles Lakers expected to take big men with the first and second picks respectively, all eyes turn towards the Philadelphia 76ers and their pick at No. 3.

After the 76ers traded away point guard Michael Carter-Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks, they could look to replace him. Ohio State’s D’Angelo Russell is a name that comes to mind but there might be a hurdle for the team.

According to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, Russell doesn’t want to play for the 76ers.

"But the buzz around the NBA is that D’Angelo Russell, a 6-foot-5 point guard from Ohio State whom many see as a lesser Stephen Curry-type, doesn’t want to play for the unpredictable 76ers. Russell did work out for the 76ers last week."

Could you blame him for wanting to avoid the Philadelphia wasteland? They won 19 games in the 2013-14 season and then 18 in the following season.

For 76ers fans wanting to believe that D’Angelo Russell would come to Philadelphia, Jonathan Givony of Draft Express has a conflicting report.

Keith Pompey of Philly.com confirmed this report by citing a source who said Russell “loves Philly.”

According to ESPN NBA draft expert Chad Ford, the 76ers pass on Russell in favor of Kristaps Porzingis, a power forward. Russell gets selected on the next pick by the New York Knicks.
