The DeMarcus Cousins trade talks have been heating up over the course of the past few days, and one of the teams that’s been right in the middle of it all is the Los Angeles Lakers. Well, now it seems that this is more than just a rumor.

According to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers and the Sacramento Kings had some pretty serious discussions on Wednesday, which included the framework of a deal being discussed. Furthermore, it seems that the two sides plan on talking some more about this on Draft day Thursday.

That definitely seems like it’s more than just a rumor at this point and there is a real chance that Cousins could be a member of the Lakers by the time Thursday night is all said and done.

In the report from Wojnarowski, he states that Kings vice president of basketball of operations Vlade Divac would look to be compensated quite well in the deal, including the Lakers’ No. 2 overall pick, Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson. However, as Woj notes, the Lakers really don’t want to part with their first-round draft pick from last year for Cousins, and they’re reluctant to include Clarkson as well.

But, with the two sides set to talk a little more on Thursday, there’s a chance that anything can happen now. Kobe Bryant could be playing with one of the best forwards in the NBA next season by the time the NBA Draft is out of the way.

Now, though, we’re beginning to find out that the denials about the Kings wanting to part ways with their top star were just smokescreens. There is real interest in getting Cousins out of town, and you really have to question the thought process of George Karl here. He seems pretty dead set on sending Cousins to a new home, which doesn’t seem all that bright of a move in regards to the future of the franchise.

We don’t know whether or not the Kings will be able to find what they’re looking for in a potential Cousins deal, as you can tell here that they’re asking a lot. But we know for a fact that Thursday should be quite the eventful day if these are the talks that are taking place right now.
