The NBA Draft is tonight, and the Phoenix Suns are actively trying to move up into the Top 10 and acquire Charlotte’s pick at No. 9 overall.

With the NBA Draft just hours away and the deadline to trade picks before hand even sooner than that, there are teams all over the draft board trying to trade up and make things happen. One of those teams are the Phoenix Suns, who currently pick No. 13 overall but want to change that up and make a move.

According to Sean Deveney of the Sporting News, the Suns are very active in trying trade up into the Top 10 and acquire Charlotte’s pick at No. 9 overall.

The chances that the Suns are able to move up really all depends on what the Hornets are hearing about who will fall to No. 9 overall. Charlotte needs shooting, and that’s going to be hard to find in their current draft slot without reaching for someone they can get with the No. 13 pick.

That’s really the allure here, as the Suns want to trade up and try to get a big man like Myles Turner or Willie Cauley-Stein before they get picked by a team like Utah or Indiana who need a center for the future or would want to pick a bench star. Phoenix has the assets to move up and Charlotte has been hot with trades lately — both factors suggest a trade could happen.

Charlotte just acquired Nicolas Batum in a deal with the Blazers and shipped off Lance Stephenson to the Clippers, meaning they’re in a mode to win now. Adding a hot young shooter like R.J. Hunter could help give the team some serious depth, and using Phoenix to trade up could make winners out of all parties involved.
