Dez Bryant to help recruit DeAndre Jordan to Mavericks
By Mike Dyce
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant will help recruit DeAndre Jordan for the Dallas Mavericks this summer.
During NBA free agency teams pull out all the stops, wining and dining players and crafting specific pitches to convince them to sign. We’ve seen photoshopped images of players outside arenas to give them a feel of what playing in that city would be like.
The Dallas Mavericks have continuously been a contender for big name free agents, but have failed to land one yet whiffing on names like Deron Williams, Dwight Howard and Carmelo Anthony. They’re expected to be players for Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan this summer and are exploring some new recruiting tactics.
The team will have Chandler Parsons, their big free agent acquisition from 2014, participating in the recruitment of Jordan. Then they’ll bring in another notable local athlete, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant.
It will be interesting to see what role Bryant plays in helping recruit Jordan to the Mavericks. He clearly doesn’t play for the team and doesn’t bring knowledge of the internal workings of the organization and their plans for the future.
What he does bring is a knowledge and love of Dallas, a city he has spent a large portion of his life in. Bryant is from Texas and has enjoyed playing for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys have used players to help recruit free agents, though typically their own players. Having a star like Dez Bryant playing a role certainly can’t hurt the Maverick’s chances.
