Power ranking the NL MVP candidates following Giancarlo Stanton’s injury
Can you believe the Chicago Cubs are actually in a position where they could potentially lock up a wild card spot before the season ends? I can’t either. I would say they have a chance to win the NL Central for the first time since 2008, but the St. Louis Cardinals are running away with the division.

There is so much young talent on this roster such as Addison Russell, Kris Bryant and Starlin Castro, but Anthony Rizzo is stealing the show.
The 25-year-old first baseman is calm, cool and collected all of the time, it seems, and he has put together one steady opening half of the season.
Although the Cubs are on a five-game skid that has caused him to go just 4-for-17 with one RBI, Rizzo is still batting a solid .304 with 15 home runs and 44 RBI. His plate discipline is second to none, as he has almost as many walks (38) as he does strikeouts (39), which lends itself to an impressive .413 on-base percentage.
Rizzo is currently on pace to shatter all of last year’s career numbers and that would definitely put him in the discussion of league MVP. Anthony Rizzo is maturing before our eyes.
