Dwyane Wade

This is a risky move, but one that could end up working out in the long run. Many believe that Cleveland and Miami will be the finalists to sign Wade, but the Knicks have money to burn and could hand that over to Wade in the end.

Miami can’t sit on their hands forever and expect for Wade to come back. If they do that, then the Knicks might make a move on him. It’s very hard to argue that Wade would effective for a majority of the regular season, and New York isn’t in a position like the Spurs or Mavericks where Wade can play half a season and be rested for the postseason.

If the Knicks make a play at Wade, he’s not going to be a frontline free agent addition. The Knicks need to view D-Wade as a supplementary addition this summer, after they’ve filled the holes that make them contenders. If that happens, then signing Wade would be a great move.

New York can’t do the typical Knicks thing and overpay for Wade and make him a headline addition.
