Marc Gasol and the Memphis Grizzlies are reportedly hammering out a new contract.

It appears that Marc Gasol will remain a member of the Memphis Grizzlies. According to David Aldridge, Gasol and team owner Robert Pera are in Barcelona working out the finer details of a new contract.

The two parties’ renegotiation falls in line with reports prior to free agency that stated Gasol had no intentions of leaving Memphis, and that the Grizzlies were the only team he planned to meet with. Should Memphis sign him to a max deal, it would run around $110 million for 5 years.

Memphis has been one of the more active teams this offseason, as it looks to make a jump from playoffs to Finals. Prior to the NBA Draft, the Grizzlies traded for Matt Barnes to deepen their bench. There were also rumors swirling that the team planned on trading for Danilo Gallinari in order to stretch the offense and bolster its perimeter game. During the draft, Memphis traded center Jon Leuer to Phoenix for point guard Andrew Harrison, a second-round pick out of Kentucky.

Locking down the big Spaniard means that Memphis will retain its twin towers of Gasol and Zach Randolph. Paired with the team’s first-round draft pick, power forward Jarrell Martin from LSU, Memphis has an even more formidable (and bruising) frontcourt.

Gasol is coming off the best season of his seven-year career, having averaged 17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 blocks per game. Though he is currently working out the deals of a new contract with the team, he cannot officially re-sign until July 9.
