Wednesday was a pretty pivotal day for the San Antonio Spurs in their quest to secure the services of free agent big man LaMarcus Aldridge. This was the day that they were scheduled to meet with the most coveted name on the market this summer, and they needed to hit it out of the park.
Well, apparently they did that and it appears now that Aldridge joining Tim Duncan, Gregg Popovich and Co. is all but a lock to take place soon.
For quite some time now the belief has been that he would indeed end up in San Antonio, although some other teams had the chance to maybe change that fate. One of those teams was the Los Angeles Lakers, who met with Aldridge on Tuesday night. However, from reports earlier today, the Lakers did nothing to help their chances with their presentation.
While Aldridge will meet with a few others, it’s now going to take some dominating pitches to pry the All-Star away from the clutches of the Spurs. They were considered in the lead coming into this free agency period, and now they basically have him secured.
Everyone better get used to seeing Aldridge dominating on the court with Duncan, Kawhi Leonard, Tony Parker and the rest of the Spurs team, because it does appear that pretty soon he’ll be inking his name on a pretty lucrative deal.
