Jean Segura

Team: Milwaukee Brewers

Stats: .256/.283/.339, 3 home runs, 23 RBI

Himself acquired as part of a solid trade deadline move, the 2012 deal that sent Zack Greinke to the Los Angeles Angels, Jean Segura may again find himself a major piece in a deadline trade. Only this time, the shortstop could be the centerpiece.

After an incredible rookie season with the Brewers in 2013, a season in which he hit .294/.329/.423 with 12 home runs, 49 RBI, and 44 stolen bases, Segura has fallen on hard times the last year-plus. In his last 210 games, Segura has hit just .249/.287/.330 with 8 home runs, 54 RBI, and 30 stolen bases.

However, the potential is still there and at 25-years-old, Segura still has a bright future ahead of him. It is that potential that will lead to teams in need of help as shortstop to give Milwaukee a call and try to wrangle the services of Segura from the Brewers. Milwaukee may be even more encouraged to flip Segura thanks to the presence of top prospect Orlando Arcia, who is currently at Double-A, is advanced as both a fielder and hitter, and is drawing comparisons to Indians prospect Francisco Lindor.

The Mets have been the one club tied to Segura the most this winter, and they certainly have the advanced pitching prospects to help make a deal happen. Additionally, the Yankees could see Segura as an offensive upgrade over Didi Gregorius and could come knocking as well. I would be shocked if Milwaukee doesn’t find a deal to their liking this summer.
