After Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Coke Zero 400, where does he stand in the updated NASCAR Sprint Cup Standings?
Dale Earnhardt Jr. was the big winner at Daytona early Monday, as he picked up his second victoryĀ of the season, and moved up to second in the points standings. After being 5th in the Sprint Cup Standings heading into the Coke Zero 400, Earnhardt Jr. climbedĀ three spots.
With the win, he also began inching closer to overallĀ leader Kevin Harvick. Harvick currently holds a 63-point lead over Earnhardt Jr. in the Sprint Cup Standings, and hasnāt looked as dominant as he did the first 15 weeks of the season.
Earnhardt Jr.ās teammateĀ Jimmie JohnsonĀ was the other winner coming out of the race, as he moved up to third in the points standings thanks to second-place finish. Johnson leads āThe Chaseā grid thanks toĀ four wins on the season ā the most of any driver. Itās highly unlikely anyone catches that number once 16 drivers start racing for a Sprint Cup Championship.
As for the biggest victim of the Sprint Cup Standings, that title goes to Martin Truex Jr.Ā For the second week in a row he had trouble with wrecks and slid three spots from 2nd to 5th.
With midnight racing finally shaking up the standings, here are the updated Sprint Cup Standings after Daytona.
