The long nightmare for Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester has finally come to an end. On this July 6, 2015, Lester and all of his fans can put their heads on their pillows tonight and rest easy.
This, because, Lester was finally able to get something done at the plate for the first time in his Major League career.
With the Cubs taking on the St. Louis Cardinals Monday night, Lester was finally able to collect the first hit of his Major League career.
OK, it wasn’t the most spectacular single that you’ll ever see, and it didn’t even make it out of the infield. But, the fact of the matter is that a hit is a hit, and that’s what this was.
With this taking place on Monday night, Lester broke quite the long streak without a single.
We normally don’t ask for much out of our pitchers, even in the National League, but that was quite the hit-less streak Lester had going on there. While batting isn’t his main responsibility when he’s on that field, that had to be frustrating.
Thankfully, though, the frustration is no more.
