Now that we know the Cubs’ Kris Bryant will be at the All-Star Game, will we get to see him perform in the Home Run Derby?

Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the brightest young stars in all of Major League Baseball right now is the Chicago Cubs’ Kris Bryant. In his debut season this year, he’s turned a lot of heads with his play at the plate, and because of that, he was officially elected as a member of the National League All-Star Team on Monday night.

Of course, though, with Bryant’s strength being his power at the plate, this has led to speculation as to whether or not he’ll compete in the premier event of the week, the Home Run Derby.

Well, shortly after the announcement that he would be a member of the team, Bryant addressed the possibility, saying that he would be more than open to competing.

Now, with the recent news on Monday that Bryce Harper will not be attending the annual power contest, this is a move that needs to happen. There’s not a doubt in the world that one of the hottest young names in the game, Kris Bryant, needs to be out there next Monday on ESPN trying to slaughter balls out of the Great American Ballpark.

In 71 games played for the Cubs this season, Bryant has managed to hit 12 home runs while batting .279. He doesn’t have the best power numbers in the league just yet, but his swing in a Home Run Derby setting like this could make for a pretty fun ride come next Monday night.

Bryant has already said that he’s open to it, so now it just needs to be made a reality.
