With the deadline coming for a potential long-term deal looming, Dez Bryant and the Cowboys don’t seem all too close in making something happen

While all the fuss in the sports world right now is all over the NBA Free Agency period, there are some contract issues that need to be resolved in the NFL world, the biggest of which is that of Dez Bryant. The wide receiver is looking for a long-term deal to get done with the only NFL team that he’s ever known, and he has just a week to get this done.

So, how close are the two sides to coming to an agreement by that July 15 deadline? Well, according to Pro Football Talk, things don’t look promising at the moment.

"“I don’t know where they get the optimism from,” the source said regarding the reports out of Dallas. “There’s literally nothing going on.”"

This past week there was said to be a lot of optimism regarding the talks, but that apparently doesn’t seem to be the case. It seems right now that Jerry Jones and his prized wide receiver aren’t nearly on the same page in getting an agreement done in seven days time.

As we know, Bryant has yet to sign his franchise tag and he’s threatened to sit out the opening game of the season against the New York Giants if something doesn’t get done. Some believe that the Cowboys are just going to call his bluff on all of this, while others are of the belief that Bryant is dead set on not playing the first week of the 2015 season.

Whatever the case really is, all reports aside, this process is going to get very interesting within the next week as they try to come to terms on something substantial.
