In what can only be described as the ultimate case of addition by subtraction, Jason Pierre-Paul has decided to amputate one of his fingers after a fireworks accident this Fourth of July weekend sent him to the hospital. The incident in question is still under investigation, but the bottom line is that it was serious enough for Pierre-Paul to lose a finger in the whole ordeal.
According to Adam Schefter from ESPN.com, Jason Pierre-Paul had one of his fingers amputated after a fireworks accident this Fourth of July weekend.
Ironically, the amputation of his finger won’t hinder his NFL career and will actually get him back on the field a lot sooner than he otherwise might have been.
Pierre-Paul had a $60 million deal yanked off the table by the New York Giants after the accident, but it appears he will be back in action sooner than we all thought. It seems counterproductive to try and heal your body by taking pieces of it away, but that’s the case for Pierre-Paul and it’s going to ensure that he gets back onto the field sooner in 2015.
This is also probably the most dedication that a football player has ever shown to his craft. While it was his own fault for getting in the accident, Pierre-Paul choosing a quicker recover to return to football over keeping all of his fingers is about as dedicated as it gets.
