Well, the Los Angeles Clippers are apparently not ready to watch DeAndre Jordan roll off into the sunset and join the Dallas Mavericks just yet. They’re going to fight this decision right to the very end.
According to a report from ESPN’s Marc Stein, with players able to sign with the teams they’ve struck deals with soon, the Clippers are going to put in an effort to see if they can get the big man to change his mind.
This is quite the interesting turn of events here, as it seemed that Jordan to the Mavericks is all but a done deal at the moment and the Clippers were ready to move along into the future without him. But it doesn’t look that way now.
However, getting him to change his mind will be rather tough, especially given the circumstances under which he reportedly made the decision to leave in the first place. After it was announced that Jordan would indeed be leaving the Clippers to join the Mavericks, it was reported that one main reason that he decided to end his run in Los Angeles was because he couldn’t take playing with Chris Paul anymore. He and the star guard reportedly never saw eye-to-eye, and Paul never even showed up to the pitch meeting that the team had with Jordan last week.
That being said, if this is to work, then they’re going to need he and Paul to patch things up and get on the same page, plain and simple. The fact of the matter is that the Clippers need Jordan to stay in title contention a lot more than he needs them. If they truly do want him to have a change of heart, then everyone needs to sit down, including one of the best point guards in the league, and hash this all out.
It’s a long shot by the Clippers here, but clearly they’re ready to make one last-ditch effort to make sure that Jordan stays put and the team can continue to contend for a title.
Last week Jordan came to terms with the Mavericks on a four-year deal with in the area of $80 million.
