Without further ado, here are my best pitcher and hitter selections for the Evening slate (7:05 p.m., 7 MLB games) of DK contests on July 9th, 2015.

  • Zack Greinke (LAD) home vs. TEX for $11,200: Grienke has had a stellar campaign despite poor run support with a 7-2 record, 1.48 ERA and 0.89 WHIP. He has been even better lately with zero runs allowed (27 2/3 IP) in his last 4 starts while averaging 26.25 FP. He takes the mound tonight in Dodger Stadium against the woeful Phillies (30th in runs scored, 24th BA vs. RHP) as an almost unheard of -400 favorite. Expect Greinke to get around 30 FP here and reward the investment even at the top SP salary.

Jeff Locke (PIT) home vs. STL for $6,800: Locke (5-4, 4.15 ERA) is coming off his best performance of his season and maybe his career, two-hitting the Indians over 8 shutout innings with 6 Ks and 32.2 FP. He takes the mound for the Pirates who are hot, winning 10 of their last 12. Look for him to continue his stellar pitching in a critical divisional game vs. the Cardinals, who are 28th in the league with a .230 BA vs. LHP. At PNC Park, which is 24th in Park Factor Runs at 0.88, Locke is a steal at $6,800.

    More from FanSided

3B Trevor Plouffe (MIN) home vs. DET (Price) for $3,600: The Twins star has hit .252 with 10 HR, and 44 RBI in 80 games for a respectable 7.8 FPPG. He has been decent lately, hitting 5 for 14 (10.5 FPPG) over his last 4 starts at is at hitter friendly Target Field which is 13th in Park Factor Runs and 9th in Park Factor HRs. He has a good R/L matchup against David Price who he has a .389 lifetime batting average (7 for 18) against. This is a very reasonable price and you can count on 10+ FP here.

SS Andrelton Simmons (ATL) at COL (Kendrick) for $4,100: The talented Atlanta shortstop (.258, 3 HR, 6.1 FPPG) has been struggling but look for him to break out at in Coors Field Thursday night vs. struggling Kyle Kendrick (3-10, 6.00 ERA, 1.45 WHIP) against whom he has a career batting average of .286 (6 for 21) with 1 HR.

  • OF Andrew McCutchen (PIT) home vs. STL (Martinez) for $4,800: McCutchen (.301 BA, 10 HR, 52 RBI, 8.7 FP) is on a 10 game hitting streak during which he has averaged 10.4 FPPG. He is 3 of 9 in his career vs. Martinex with a home run. McCutchen has been carrying the Pirates offense and don’t expect it to stop on Thursday. Spend the big money here and save elsewhere.

Tips for New Daily Fantasy League Players

OF Mike Trout (LAA) at SEA (Hernandez) for $4,800: The perennial MVP candidate has been excellent again in 2015 as the focal point of the Angels lineup with a .302 BA, 22 HR, 48 RBI, 9 SB and a massive 10 FPPG in 83 games. Trout has been on fire going 10 for 24 with 5 HR in his last 8 games.  I don’t usually recommend any hitter against King Felix, but Trout has an unignorable .345 BA (20 for 58) against him lifetime with 3 HR and 12 RBIs.
