Neck injuries in any sport are quite unfortunate and dangerous, and the same goes for the world of professional wrestling. Careers for men the likes of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Edge have brought an abrupt end to it all in the ring. The latest WWE superstar to suffer a severe neck injury in the ring was Tyson Kidd, and his almost brought about something much worse than just his in-ring career being over.

Last month Kidd was in a match with WWE newcomer and longtime veteran Samoa Joe, when Joe performed his famous Muscle Buster finishing maneuver. While Joe has done this hundreds of times in his career throughout the world, this time something went wrong and Kidd suffered the injury to the neck area. He recently underwent surgery to repair the problem, and that’s when we found out that it was a lot more serious than originally thought.

Kidd recently tweeted out a photo of the results, and he also revealed that he could have actually died from the injury that he suffered on that night in the ring.

Only five percent of people survive. Take a second and let that sink in for a moment. This isn’t just Kidd’s wrestling career potentially being over that we’re talking about here — it’s his life.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, one of the only reasons that Kidd survived the injury was that fact that the muscles in his neck were so toned that they were able to keep everything together when the injury occurred. Boy, talk about the work in the weight room paying off, huh?

Just another example that not everything you see on WWE television is “fake.”
