Home Run Derby: Todd Frazier hits walk off to beat Prince Fielder in Round 1 (Video)

Todd Frazier gave the hometown fans in Cincinnati something to cheer about in Round 1 of the 2015 Home Run Derby.

With the 2015 Home Run Derby operating on the new bracket format, many baseball fans were left wondering how it would affect one of the main events of MLB All-Star break. In just the first round as Texas Rangers slugger Prince Fielder took on two-seed Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier in front of Frazier’s hometown fans.

Fielder was up first and was putting balls over the fence at an incredibly high rate. Ultimately he ended up with 13. Early in Frazier’s turn, it didn’t seem as if he was even going to come near 13. Then he got hot and, ultimately, tied Fielder’s number with bonus time still to go. In bonus time, Frazier wasn’t messing around as he hit this little number for the walk off win in Round 1:

With the drama that’s already unfolding in just the first round of this new format, it’s safe to say that this is looking like a win for Major League Baseball. Who knew that adding a more direct competitive aspect to a contest involving professional athletes might make things just a little spicier.
