Who won last year’s British Open?
By Jack Crosby
Before we see who can win the British Open this year, let’s have a look at last year’s amazing competition and winner
Every golf fan alive today loves nothing more than to watch a good major tournament and that’s what we’re getting this weekend with the 2015 British Open. This weekend at St. Andrews some of the best golfers in the world will compete to see who can add a major trophy to their collection.
One thing that we do know is that Rory McIlroy will not be one of the golfers competing this weekend for the British Open title, which actually is pretty significant seeing as he was the winner of the event last year. After suffering an ankle injury recently, McIlroy announced that he will be out of the fold, which really is a shame considering what a performance he put on last year to win his first British Open championship.
In the 2014 version of the British Open, McIlroy had one of the better outings ever at Royal Liverpool, which is where the event took place last year. Right from the beginning on Thursday, McIlroy took the lead and never looked back, going wire-to-wire in one of the biggest major tournaments of the entire year.
McIlroy got things started off in the first round by shooting a 66, and he would follow that up with scores of another 66, 68 and finally finished things off with a 71 to put him at -17 for the entire British Open. Really, there was very little doubt in anyone’s mind that McIlroy would walk out of there with the British Open title.
Sadly, though, with the injury that he has suffered to the ankle, he will have to wait until 2016 to see whether or not he can grab himself another one of those trophies.
