Houston Astros – Roy Oswalt

Franchise Four: Jeff Bagwell, Craig Biggio, Lance Berkman, Nolan Ryan

Given the often turbulent history of the Houston Astros franchise, you can hardly blame Astros fans for clinging to the “Killer B’s” years and naming the trio of Bagwell, Biggio, and Berkman to the team’s Franchise Four. You also can’t blame them for being one of three teams to name Texas’ biggest citizen, Nolan Ryan, to the list.

As for their biggest snub, we also can’t blame the fans here either. He wasn’t even on the list of eight to vote on!

The club’s all-time leader in pitching WAR (46.3), Roy Oswalt was a shocker of a player omitted from this election. Oswalt spent 10 solid seasons as the staff ace in Houston from 2001 to 2010 and was second on the club in wins (143) and second in strike-outs (1,593). Overall, he went 143-82 in an Astros uniform with a 3.24 ERA and a 3.35 FIP, and finished in the top-5 of the Cy Young voting five different time.

It would be difficult to determine which of the four to unseat for Oswalt, but his snub from even being on the ballot is much more of a travesty.
