British Open: Jordan Spieth off to a hot start
By Mike Dyce
At the 2015 British Open Championship, Jordan Spieth is off to a host start.
Jordan Spieth has taken the golf world by storm in 2015, winning The Masters and then following it up with a win at the U.S. Open in June. Now Spieth is pursuing a feat that not many men before him have accomplished by winning his third consecutive major in the same calendar year at the 2015 British Open Championship.
And just like his run at The Masters to kick off this hot streak, he opened the British Open with a bang on Thursday.
Spieth shot -4 through the first six holes, which is just incredible and puts him out with the leaders early on. Through the first 13 holes Spieth has shot a -5 which has him in the pack at the top of the leader board, but he is one stroke behind the men in the lead at -6.
We can’t expect wire-to-wire leads from Spieth at every major, and he certainly can’t be leading by a comfortable margin every time either.
But you have to wonder with Spieth lurking at the top of the leader board at a stroke back if he has sort of the same effect a younger Tiger Woods did during the height of his run, if his presence adds pressure to the other golfers he’s contending with and his mere presence gives him an edge mentally over his opponents.
