MLB Trade Deadline 2015: 5 moves that must happen
Sitting at the bottom of the American League West standings, the Oakland Athletics could be looking to sell at the trade deadline. If so, 31-year old left-handed pitcher Scott Kazmir is likely going to be their hottest trade commodity.
Kazmir is actually having a better season than when he was named an All-Star a year ago during his first season in Oakland. The Baltimore Orioles, a team that desperately needs to improve its starting pitching to make a playoff run, would be a perfect fit for his services.
The Orioles are currently four games back in the American League East and 3.5 games back of the final wildcard spot. Playing in one of the most competitive divisions in baseball, they need to make a move to help separate themselves from the pack.
Their pitching is not bad by any means, but they do rank outside the Top-10 in every major pitching category. This simply will not cut it if they hope to climb back into the playoff picture. Even if they do manage to make the playoffs, their pitching is not strong enough to be a serious contender.
With eight pending free agents on the roster, Baltimore would be wise to go into win-now mode immediately, before their window of opportunity closes.
